Happy Halloween! The trick-or-treating season is in full swing this week. If your little ones are anything like the Kooi Law family, they are eager to dress up, go door to door, and gather as much candy as humanly possible in one evening. We have two words for the little ghosts and goblins in your life: BE CAREFUL! On average, kids are twice as likely to be hit by a car on Halloween as any other day of the year.
Below is our list of safety tips to keep in mind on Halloween:
- Masks or any other parts of a costume that covers the face can reduce your child’s ability to observe their surroundings. Masks should be removed when going from house to house.
- Costumes and bags should be decorated with reflective tape in order for children to be easily seen from the road.
- If you are out on the roads on Halloween, especially during popular trick-or-treating hours, drive with caution and keep your eyes open for little ones near the road.
- Carry a flashlight and always go in a group. Never trick-or-treat alone!
- Only eat pre-packaged candy.
